1355804 Esters of penicillins and cephalosporins BEECHAM GROUP Ltd 2 Dec 1971 [4 Dec 1970] 57619/70 Heading C2A Novel penicillin and cephalosporin esters having the general Formula (I) and acid addition salts thereof, wherein R is a cyclohexyl, cyclohexadienyl or cyclohexenyl ring; R<SP>1</SP> is an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, aryl or heterocyclic group; X is an amino, protonated amino, azido, phthalimido or enamine group, or is condensed with a C 1 -C 6 alkyl-methyl ketone to form an imidazolidinone ring, and A represents a divalent radical of Formula (II) wherein R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen, hydroxy, acyloxy or 1- pyridinium, are prepared by either (a) acylating an appropriate 6-aminopenicillanic ester or 7- aminocephalosporanic ester, of Formula (V) with an N-acylating derivative of a carboxylic acid of Formula (VI) wherein Y is protected amino, and optionally then converting the protected amino group to an amino group; or (b) esterifying an appropriate penicillanic acid or cephalosporanic acid, of Formula (VII) - with a compound of Formula (VIII) in which Z is halogen, alkylsulphonyloxy or arylsulphonyloxy.
