Abstract
1355685 Treating exhaust gases MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 20 July 1971 [30 July 1970 (2) 12 May 1971] 34071/71 Heading F1B Vehicle exhaust purification equipment comprises an inner space divided into two or more parallel catalyst chambers 67 into which are packed meshed fabrics of glass fibres carrying catalysts. Exhaust gas flows in via feed pipe 61 and out via discharge pipes 62 and 62 which are connected to a single pipe connected to a muffler. The casing 63 may be box-shaped or cylindrical and the pipe 61 may enter it adjacent a side wall Fig. 4a, (not shown). In Fig. 7a exhaust gases leave the equipment by single pipe 72. The glass fibres may have their alkali metal content reduced by dipping in strong acid to increase the percentage of silica they contain. The catalysts are platinum or oxides of copper, nickel, manganese, cobalt or iron. Air may be supplied to the equipment by a blower driven by the engine or by a battery.
