Abstract
1355521 Dies for pressing ceramics BRITISH CERAMIC RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 12 Jan 1972 [15 Jan 1971] 2047/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division B6] At least one of the co-operating dies 11, 20 used for pressing ceramic material 23 is provided with a contoured surface and both dies are provided with a resilient member or members 14, 24. The latter may be formed of natural rubber or polyurethane elastomer, may comprise an outer layer and a softer inner layer and may cover the whole or part of (Fig. 4) the face of a die. The member(s) may be flush with, sunk below or project from the surface of a die (Fig. 4), may be bonded to or detachably located in the dies and may be contoured or associated with a lumpy powder to provide embossed designs or dovetail fixture recesses (Fig. 4) in the article being formed. The edges of the member(s) may be chamfered and may be protected by projections on the die, e.g. 24, Fig. 2. The walls of the lower die box 21 may be stationary as shown or spring-loaded (25, Fig. 4). One or two ejector rods 22 may be provided. Dies for making plates (Fig. 1) and tiles Fig. 2, are described.
