Abstract
135,508. Berkel, C. F. M. van. July 5, 1917, [Convention date]. Cutting slices in succession.-In a stacking mechanism for machines for slicing meat &c., the slice-discharging portion is operated at a speed independent of the speed of the machine. As shown, meat on a reciprocating table 5 is sliced by a rotating knife 3. After each cut the usual slice-feed mechanism feeds the meat on to spikes 12, Fig. 10, carried by vertical members 13 secured to top and bottom chains 14, 15 guided in channels 17, 18 reciprocating with the table 5. At the end of the stroke of the table, when the slice has been completely cut, an arm 28 which, up to that point, has caused the spikes to move with the table, accelerates the chains along their guides to carry the cut slice past a guard plate 40 to discharging arms 46, which, as the chains move, slide between the slice and the members 13. The arms 46 are carried by a vertical rod 47 secured to a shaft 48 having an arm 52, Fig. 4. The arm 52 is pulled down by a spring 65 to detach the slice from the spikes 12 and deliver it to a plate 70. Normally, the arm 52 is held up by a link 53 having an arm 61 pivoted thereto and provided with a roller 60 engaging a cam 59 driven from the main shaft 8 of the machine. The arm 61 is pivoted so that the cam can turn in the reverse direction. A catch may normally retain the rod 47 vertical, being tripped by a link engaged by the arm 28 when the slice is to be discharged on to the stack. The rod 48 may have a cam engaging a spring- pressed roller and acting as a shock absorber at the end of the discharging oscillation of the arms 46. The plate 70 is held at any point on vertical rods 75, each holding means comprising a plate 78, Fig. 13, caused to bind on the rod by a spring 80 and released when desired by a finger piece 79.
