1301043 Slicing machines W KRAUT [trading as BIZERBA WERKE WILHELM KRAUT K G] 30 Oct 1970 [5 Dec 1969] 51616/70 Heading A4C A slicing machine having an adjustable thickness of cut comprises a reciprocating carriage 8, Fig. 1, a rotating planar circular knife 5, a conveyor 13 and a slice striker for depositing cut slices on a table 16, the machine being selectively operable in a "stack" mode, in which the table is lowered by a distance equal to the slice thickness during each cutting cycle, or in a "stagger" mode in which the table is moved stepwise horizontally away from the conveyer during each cutting cycle. The carriage 8 is driven via a geared motor and crank wheel which, during the rearward cutting stroke of the carriage, also drives, via free-wheels and an endless belt, superimposed spiked chains 14 of conveyer 13, the conveyer stopping as the carriage reaches its rearmost position in which it actuates a switch to operate the solenoid actuator striker 17 to pivot about a horizontal axis to knock a slice on to table 16. A food clamp 9 on carriage 8 is driven transversely to the axis of carriage reciprocation to move the material to be sliced towards the knife by a distance equal to the slice thickness in each cycle of reciprocation, an adjustable lever 22 striking a rack bar (37), Fig. 3 (not shown), slidably mounted on the carriage 8, on the return stroke of the carriage to rotate a shaft (38) stepwise via a pinion (35) and free-wheel (37). Rotation of shaft (38) moves clamp 9 via engagement with a nut plate (55). A control 107 adjusts the drive of table 16 so that it operates in the "stagger" or "stack" mode. In the "stack" mode reciprocation of the carriage 8 causes stepwise one way rotation of a spindle 119, Fig. 10 via movement of a spring tension lever system (124-130), Fig. 11 (not shown), a rack bar 132 and free-wheel 134, spindle 119 being releasably engaged by a nut plate 116 on the lower end of a vertical shaft 102 supporting the table. In the "stagger" mode a shaft 94, Fig. 9, which is rotated by the solenoid actuating the striker 17, rotates a gear 114 via a free wheel 157, causing pivoting of a feed lever 155 engaging the table 16 so that the table is moved forward during the return pivotal movement of striker 17. When the table 16 reaches a lower, or forward, limit position a limit switch is operated stopping carriage reciprocation. The table 16 may be returned to its starting position by a lever 145, Fig.1. The slice thickness may be infinitely adjusted between limits by a knob 12 which moves a guard 7 relative to the knife 5 and also adjusts the position of the lever 22 thus adjusting the distance moved by clamp 9. The knob 12 simultaneously adjusts the position of a stop (138), Fig. 11, engaged by the spring- tensioned lever system to thereby adjust the height that the table 16 is lowered in each cutting cycle.
