Abstract

1354794 Radiography apparatus SIEMENS AG 15 Sept 1971 [16 Sept 1970] 43074/71 Heading H5R [Also in Division G1] In radiography apparatus in which a cone 2 of rays is directed towards a radiation-sensitive film 3, data on a card 4-e.g. relevant to a patient being radiographed-is reproduced on an edge portion of the film during the taking of the radiograph, and a shutter 5 has control means controlling its displacement from a first position clear of the radiation cone to a second position in which it screens the edge portion of the film, in such a manner that the radiation dose received by the edge portion is limited to a preselected valve appropriate to the clear reproduction of the data. In the embodiment shown, the shutter is spring-urged into its screening position upon retraction of the stops 11 and 12 by a pair of electromagnets (13 and) 14, which magnets are connected in a circuit in which the light from a fluorescent screen located in the cone is received by a photo-element which charges an adjustable capacitor until the potential difference thereacross breaks down a Zener diode to render a transistor conducting and energize the magnets (Fig. 2, not shown). In an alternative arrangement, with an X-ray tube as ray source, the electromagnets are energized under the control of a time switch which is coupled to the manual mA and kV adjustment means of the tube.
