Abstract

1354762 Measuring speed electrically STIFTELSEN INSTITUTET FOR MIKROVAGSTEKNIK VID TEKNISKA HOGSKOLAN I STOCKHOLM 9 June 1971 [9 June 1970] 19788/71 Heading G1N The velocity of a moving body is determined from the time interval between signals developed in successively positioned sensors. As shown Fig. 1, an elongated body O moves at a velocity v past sensors 1, 2 which detect random variations in a property of the body O. The signals are fed to a differential amplifier F3 via cyclically operated switches A, B so that an output is obtained if the interval between the opening of switches A and the mid-point of the closing of switch B is not equal to the time delay between the signals from sensors 1, 2. Any such output is integrated at I through further cyclic switches C, D and varies the frequency of an A/F converter which controls the cycling of switches A, B, C, D, until these time intervals are equal. The frequency is shown at 12 and is indicative of the velocity v.
