Abstract

1,228,350. Frequency measurement. BECKMAN INSTRUMENTS Inc. 29 May, 1969 [31 May, 1968], No. 27313/69. Heading H3A. A frequency discriminator of the type in which constant width pulses are produced and fed to an averaging circuit includes a highfrequency oscillator 27 whose output is fed to a bi-stable 33 and a counter 34 in response to the input signal at 30, the counter 30 initiating a reset pulse at a predetermined count which resets bi-stable 33 to initiate an output pulse. In a system for measuring the speed of a centrifuge rotor, the output from a transducer coupled to the rotor is fed, via a frequency divider if required, to the input 30 of the frequency/ voltage converter. The first pulse to arrive sets bistable 24 to open NOR gate 26, and feed pulses from oscillator 27 to bi-stable 33. The first pulse from oscillator 27 sets bi-stable 33 which initiates an output pulse on line 31, and also opens NOR gates 28. Subsequent pulses from oscillator 27 are then fed to counter 34 and, at a predetermined count, an output pulse from the counter resets bi-stable 24 which in turn resets bi-stable 33 to terminate the output pulse. The cycle repeats at the next input pulse at 30. The constant width pulses on line 34 are fed to integrator 23 via a pulse amplifier Q 1 , Q 2 , Q 3 .
