Abstract

1354681 Cathode-ray tube circuits SANDERS ASSOCIATES Inc 19 April 1971 [2 April 1970] 15746/70 Heading H4T [Also in Division H1] A flat cathode-ray display tube 203, Fig., 9, is scanned in orthogonal directions under the control of binary signals fed from a computer to registers 195 and 196. The output of the registers are converted to analogue signals and fed through respective amplifiers 201, 202 to the deflection plates. A coupling circuit 204 corrects for the trapezium distortion to which this type of tube is subject, and if a D.C. coupled circuit is employed an off-set potential must be connected between the amplifiers to correct a parallelogram scan into a rectangular one. Units 205-209 apply corrections for focus, linearity and astigmatism and these corrections need not be changed as each code in the registers is changed; for 256 changes in the registers there may be only 32 changes of code applied to the decoders 199 and 200. Any co-ordinate position may be selected and addressed and the computer output may be programmed to direct the beam in other ways than a raster scan, for example alphanumerically. Specific tubes described include single beam and double beam tubes producing single or double displays in one, two, three or more colours, and camera tubes are mentioned.
