1354643 Enteric medicament coatings SANKYO CO Ltd 21 July 1972 [21 July 1971] 34239/72 Heading A5B [Also in Division C3] A pharmaceutical coating composition contains (1) a mixture comprising from 6 to 9 parts by weight of (a) hydroxypropylcellulose and/or hydroxypropylmethylcellulose and from 1 to 4 parts by weight of (b) polyvinylacetal diethylaminoacetate. (2) at least one dibasic organic acid and (3) from 5 to 60% by weight, on the basis of mixture (1) of one or more saturated fatty acids having from 12 to 24 carbon atoms, a stearyl alcohol, or oleic acid, or a mixture of any of these. Films made from this composition are used to coat tert pills of lactose plus starch. The coated pills may then be given an additional sugar coating. The films are adhesive to both pill and supercoating and are moisture resistant but disperse or dissolve in gastric and intestinal juices and hot water.
