Abstract

1354533 Doffing and donning; taking up waste ASAHI KASEI KOGYO KK 30 June 1971 [30 June 1970 19 July 1970] 30754/71 Heading D1J Continuously supplied filament (Fig. 1), e.g. acetate yarn, is deflected by fluid jet through a fluid pressure gun 9 to a waste collection zone, whilst a fully wound bobbin 10 is replaced by an empty one. Doffing and Donning. Motor-driven cams control pneumatic valves operating a doffing and donning sequence when a timer indicates completion of the package. First suction gun 9 is started, then nozzle 6 (Fig. 3) having a slot 8a in its side is supplied with air, drawing the yarn into slot 8a and thrusting it towards suction gun 9 whilst withdrawing it from a traverse guide 11a. Severing blades 14a, 14b are advanced, cutting the yarn so that the continuously supplied portion is taken up by gun 9 and fed to a waste box. Next the fully wound bobbin 10 is pivoted away from drive roll 118 by piston 26a (Fig. 5) as a lever 31 having a bobbin support 233 at its end is pivoted by piston 32a to the illustrated position. Rotation of the bobbin is braked (Fig. 10) by pneumatically actuated brakes 126, 127 mounted on the bobbin cradle 15, arms 15a, 15b of which are then spread apart by pistons 20, 21 to deposit the full bobbin on support 233, which is then pivoted by piston 32, placing the bobbin on a conveyor 27. A suction tube 29 then picks up a fresh bobbin 28, and swings it (Fig. 7) to be gripped by cradle 15, which then swings back to engage the fresh bobbin with drive roll 118. Finally a nozzle 13 (Fig. 1) is supplied with compressed air, moving the yarn to engage a catching projection or notch 12 on the fresh bobbin and to be taken up by the traverse guide 11a, and blades 14a, 14b are again advanced to sever the waste yarn portion.
