Abstract
1354520 Semi-melt spinning of acrylonitrile fibres TOHO BESLON KK 21 Dec 1971 [25 Dec 1970 30 Dec 1970] 59495/71 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] Artificial fibres are prepared by melting and spinning a composition, which is powdery or granular at room temperature, comprising a polymer containing at least 85% by weight of acrylonitrile units, a flame-proofing agent and 20-60% by weight of the total composition of dimethylformamide. The flame-proofing agent may be a conventional low molecular weight material and/or a polymer of a vinyl or vinylidene halide or copolymer thereof with another monomer, e.g. acrylonitrile or a vinyl ether. In examples the compositions are melted at about 150‹ C., spun into a hot air current, washed with water and subjected to stretching, relaxation and drying treatments as required.
