Connecting-rods; cross. heads. - Relates to improved means for attaching the connecting-rod and piston-rod to the cross-head of the type in which the gudgeon pin opposes a larger surface to the connecting-rod during the forward stroke of the piston than during the return stroke. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the piston-rod is attached to a segmental saddle 2a, which bears the gudgeon-pin 2<b> to which the slippers 9 are attached. The bush 3<a> in the connecting-rod offers a larger bearing-surface to the gudgeon pin than the bushes in the caps 4<a>. The bushes may be lined with antifriction metal, and the bush 3<a> may be recessed to permit oscillation of the connecting-rod. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the gudgeon pin 2 is slotted to receive a flanged sleeve 11<a>, which is secured by a plug 8<a>, the piston-rod 1 being afterwards secured to the sleeve.
