Abstract

1354303 Photosensitive materials HYDRON CHEMICAL CO Ltd and KANSAI PAINT CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [19 Feb 1970] 23471/71 Heading G2C A presensitized printing plate comprises (1) a support, (2) a hydraulic layer of a waterinsoluble acrylate polymer capable of absorbing at least 20% of its weight of water and comprising at least 50wt per cent of a hydroxyalkyl-acrylate or methacrylate or a hydroxy-alkoxyalkyl-mono acrylate; the alkyl and alkoxy groups containing 2-4 carbon atoms, and (3) a photo-hardenable layer. Specified photo-hardenable layers are (a) photo-polymerizable compositions, (b) bichromates with gelatine, albumin or polyvinylalcohol and (c) diazo-compounds, azide compounds, organosulphur compounds or cinnamic acid compounds and polymers. In the examples, a primed steel, tin, aluminium or polyester support is coated with a solution or laminated to a sheet comprising polymerised mixture of acrylate, methacrylate, diacrylate and dimethacrylate monomers, a crosslinking agent and optionally a filler such as silica or alumina. This layer is overcoated with a light sensitive layer of a polyurethane reacted with 2- hydroxyethylmethacrylate or a bis-azide and a rubber to produce the pre-sensitized plate; the hydrophilic layer improving the water-receptivity during printing.
