Abstract

1354289 Styrene/N-substituted acrylamide copolymers BP CHEMICALS Ltd 8 July 1971 [28 July 1970] 36384/70 Heading C3P A copolymer comprises 70-99% of polymerized styrene units and 1-30% of polymerized N-substituted acrylamide units of formula wherein R is a carbocyclic substituent and the nitrogen atom is attached directly to a carbon atom in the carbocycle. Groups R specified are cyclohexyl, paratolyl and phenyl. They are prepared by polymerizing styrene with the corresponding monomeric substituted acrylamide by any solution, bulk or suspension method using any of the conventional initiators. In the examples, styrene is polymerized with N - phenylacrylamide, N-cyclohexylacrylamide or N - p - tolylacrylamide in bulk or suspension.
