Abstract

1354061 Coaster hubs FICHTEL & SACHS AG 19 April 1972 [23 April 1971 (2)] 18170/72 Heading B7E [Also in Division F2] A coaster hub for a cycle comprises a driving sleeve 205 helically splined to a clutch cone 211 which, when the hub 205 is rotated in the forward pedalling direction, is moved left into engagement with a cone surface on a driven hub 204. When the driving sleeve 205 is rotated in the back-pedalling direction the clutch cone 211 moves right into engagement with brake discs 212 which are tilted into frictional engagement with an interior surface of the hub 204. The brake discs are carried by a non-rotatable sleeve 213 having a square section which passes through rectangular apertures in the brake discs. The brake discs have an elliptic outer periphery. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the cone clutch is replaced by a tilting disc clutch. In Fig. 6 (not shown) tiltable discs (463) are mounted on an axially slidable sleeve (461) which is helically splined to a driving hub (457). When the hub (457) is rotated in the forward pedalling direction the discs (463) are tilted into engagement with a driven hub (454). When the hub (457) is rotated in the back-pedalling direction the sleeve (461) is moved axially right to engage teeth (464) with teeth (465) on a fixed hub (455) to prevent rotation of the sleeve (461) and discs (463). Thereafter the discs (463) are tilted into braking engagement with the hub (454).
