Abstract

1353965 Seaming non-metallic sheet material H D SHARMAN 20 Nov 1972 [5 Nov 1971] 51443/71 Heading B5K A joint between two edge sections 10, 12 of sheet material, each section 10, 12 having an extremity 10A, 12A and slots 14, 16 defining rows of oppositely directed tongues 14A, 14B, 16A, 16B therein, the rows being spaced inwardly of the extremities 10A, 12A so as to define an edge region 11, 13, is made by locating each extremity 10A, 12A und3r the tongues of the rows in the other section and the tongues in the rows in each section being joined together. As shown, the slots are H-shaped and the rows are parallel to the extremities. 10A, 12A. To form the joint, the region 13 is overlapped with the section 10 and the tongues 16A are passed into the slots 14. The sections 10, 12 are pulled apart so that the slots 14, 16 are not overlapped. The extremity 12A is sprung under the tongues 14A and the extremity 10A is sprung under the tongues 16B to form the joint of Figs. 2 and 3. The tongues 14A, 14B are joined together by sleeve clips 30, staples 32 or adhesive. In a modification (not shown), the slots are V- shaped. Preferably, the sections 10, 12 are the ends of a length of plastics sheet joined together to make an endless conveyer belt or band for the collection of droppings in a poultry battery cage.
