Abstract

1353850 Photo-electric position determining OPTISCHE INDUSTRIE " DE OUDE DELFT" NV 12 April 1972 [13 April 1971 17 June 1971] 16910/72 Heading H4D The position of a light pulse emitting point on a screen 6 is determined by photomultiplier tubes 1 to 5, arranged as shown, the difference in outputs of tubes 1, 2 and 3, 4 being divided by that of tube 5 by suitable circuitry. A discriminator 13 only allows points whose intensity falls within a predetermined range to be displayed on cathode-ray oscilloscope 14. Screen 6 may be the anode screen (29) (Fig. 2, not shown) of a gamma ray camera, the image intensifiers (21)-(24) of which are interconnected by fibre optics (25)-(27). Filters (37), (38) are placed in front of screen (29) and photomultiplier (35), (replacing 5 of Fig. 1), respectively to compensate for errors in position of the point in respect of the position of the primary particle entering the camera and for " vignetting ", i.e. variation of point brightness as a function of position on the screen. A lens (36) is used to form an image of screen (29) on photomultiplier (35).
