Wheel apparatus.-A machine for grinding chilled rolls &c. comprises a grinding-wheel i journaled in bearings in a bridge-like bracket h, the feet h<2>, h<3> of which are mounted on slides l<3>, m<3> to enable the grinding feed to be put on by means of a traversing-screw n; the bridge is immovable on the standards l, m except for this feeding movement. The grinding-wheel is arranged to one side of the roll a as shown, so that the strain is taken partly by theslides and partly 'by the feed-screw: the bridge comprises two parallel interconnected members with the grinding-wheel in the space between them. The roll is mounted in bearings c on a slide d and is slowly rotated during grinding; it may be located either above or below the grinding-wheel.
