Abstract

1353817 Play apparatus L VITKINDAS I Aug 1972 [12 July 1971] 32546/71 Heading A6M A childs roundabout comprises a circular frame 11 supported by wheels 12 for rotation about its axis, a plurality of seats 14 being supported on the frame, at least one of the wheels being located adjacent a seat 14 and being provided with pedals 17, the pedels being mounted on a shaft journalled in the frame, and the wheel being removably mounted on a sleeve rotatably carried by the shaft and interconnected with the shaft by a free-wheel mechanism. As shown the wheels are arranged to run on a track 10 but the device may be free standing on flat ground. Each seat is provided with handgrips 15 and alternate seats (i.e. those not adjacent pedal wheels) have footrests 18. Wheel guards 19 are provided. The device may be of welded tube and may be made in sections to allow dismantling. Free wheel mechanism:-(Fig. 2, not shown). The pedal shaft (16) is rotatably mounted in forks 13. A sleeve (20) is mounted on the shaft (16) by two ball bearings (21). The free wheel ratchet (22) may be between the bearings (21), or two ratchets (22) may be located between bearings (21) or one ratchet (22) may be located outboard of each bearing (21). The wheel is removably mounted on the sleeve (20) (e.g. by a taper lock bush).
