Abstract

1353773 Gel cooling compositions VAMUS NV 19 April 1971 [13 Feb 1970] 21724/71 Headings C3U and C3F [Also in Division F4] A dry composition suitable to be mixed with water to form an aqueous gel freezing composition which can undergo repeated freezing and thawing when used as a cooling element and still be a gel with a substantially non-flow characteristic when thawed, and including an optionally substituted galacto-mannan as a gelling agent and carboxymethyl cellulose as an additive for inhibiting crystal growth upon freezing of the aqueous composition. Optionally an electrolyte, e.g. NaCl and a preserving agent for the gelling agent may be incorporated. The preferred compositions comprise methylated guar gum in the weight ratio to said additive of from 1 : 1 to 10 : 1. The invention extends to aqueous compositions of the above and cooling elements comprising the aqueous composition in sealed paper, or plastics containers.
