Rising hinges for doors and gates comprise upper and lower members b, a, Fig. 4, having their opposed surfaces formed into three or more spiral segments, and interposed balls d confined to their respective spiral segments by radial crossribs c or equivalent stops on the lower member a. In the case of three spiral segments, the angular movement of the door or gate will be about 120 degrees. For greater angular movement, the segments and balls, are duplicated, as shown in Fig. 7, by providing an intermediate member i; or movement in either direction can be provided for by forming the upper and lower pairs of surfaces in reverse directions.
