Hinges; gate-closing apparatus.-The stationary part 5 screws into the gate-post, and to it are attached a base-plate 11 and pintle 8, secured by a nut on the lower and thinner part of the pintle projecting beneath the part 5. The part 15, which is fastened to the gate, is provided with a bearing engaging the pintle, and carries a grooved roller 18, which runs on the inclined flange 13 of the baseplate 11 and lifts the gate when opened. A depression at the highest part of the flange serves to hold the gate in the opened position. When the gate is partly opened, the hinge automatically closes it. Fig. 3 shows a modification used with gates which open in both directions. The depressions 19, 20 hold the gate when open and shut, respectively.
