Abstract
1353743 Modified polybutadienes; organosilyl - modified polyethers; polyurethane foams IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 Sept 1971 [7 Sept 1970] 42761/70 Addition to 1090328 Headings C3P and C3R Modified polybutadienes contain units of the general formula in which each R is a hydrocarbyl or substituted hydrocarbyl group or a group R<SP>v</SP> 3 Si(OSiR<SP>v</SP> 2 ) x O wherein R<SP>v</SP> is a hydrocarbyl or substituted hydrocarbyl group; R<SP>1</SP> is an organic group free from olefinic unsaturation and of valency (z+1); R<SP>11</SP> is a hydrocarbyl or substituted hydrocarbyl group, an acyl group, a carbamoyl group or hydrogen; n is 2, 3 or 4; x is 0 or an integer up to 10; y is an integer from 2-100; and z is an integer from 1-5. They are made by reacting polybutadiene containing 1,2-linkages with a compound of formula A variety of other units may also be present in the chain. In examples, (1) [H(CH 3 ) 2 Si] 2 O is reacted with a compound of formula the product of this is reacted with predominantly - 1,2 - polybutadiene to form a modified polymer as defined above, and this is then further reacted with 1,1,1,3,5,5,5-heptamethyltrisiloxane; (2) as for (1) but without the last step; (3) as for (1) except that C 6 H 5 (CH 3 )SiH 2 is used in the first step in place of [H(CH 3 ) 2 Si] 2 O; and (4) C 6 H 5 (CH 3 )SiH 2 is reacted with and the product is reacted with predominantly- 1,2-polybutadiene. In all these reactions the catalyst used is transdichloro-bis(diethylsulphide)platinum-II, and the final products are used as foam stabilizers in the otherwise conventional manufacture of polyurethane foam.
