Abstract

1353711 Control of stepping motors SIEMENS AG 6 March 1972 [16 June 1971] 10252/72 Heading H2J [Also in Division H1] In an electromagnetic device in which an armature is moved towards a desired position and held there by the magnetic fields of two mutually magnetically isolated electromagnets, the movement of the armature in the vicinity of the desired position is damped by induced current circulating in a loop formed by parallel connected energizing windings of the two electromagnets. The damping arrangement is applicable to plunger type solenoids, Fig. 1 (not shown) and to stepping motors, Fig. 3. The motor shown has two sets of stator poles cooperating with respective rotors mounted on a common shaft. As shown, the rotors are angularly staggered and parallel connected windings are mounted on the poles 6 and 7, and on the poles 8 and 9. The motor rotor is stepped round by sequentially energizing pairs of windings in parallel.
