Abstract

1353697 Shaping packages; venting bags McKENZIE & BROWN Ltd 6 April 1973 [18 Jan 1972] 2296/72 Headings B8C and B8X Apparatus for puncturing and patching air tight bags containing particulate material, so as to release trapped air, comprises a conveyer 7 to convey shaped bags along a given path, a probe 11 arranged to intercept the path and to puncture and vent conveyed bags successively, and a patch applicator 20 arranged to intercept the path beyond the probe and to encounter and patch each bag puncture. As shown bags are conveyed through a conventional bag shaping apparatus 1 to the conveyer 7 where a multiple hollow needle head 12 connected to an air extractor 11 punctures and vents each bag, whereafter a length of pressure sensitive adhesive tape 15 is applied over the puncture by the patch applicator 20 which is actuated by a plunger device 17. The operation of the probe and applicator are controlled by limit switches 9 and 10.
