Abstract

1353685 Lamp failure alarms PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 May 1971 [29 May 1970] 17239/71 Heading G4N In a circuit for supervising a load (such as the flashing lamps 1 of a motor vehicle) which is fed with direct current, interrupted by contacts 3, the contacts are bridged by the series arrangement of a capacitor 6 and resistor 5, the voltage across resistor 5 being supplied to a transistor amplifier 13 arranged to provide a signal in the event of a fault in load 1. At the onset of each break of contacts 3, the voltage across resistor 5 reaches a maximum as capacitor 6 begins to charge, the maximum value being a function of the potential division between the resistor 5 and the resistance of the load 1. Under normal conditions, the differential amplifier 13 will produce an output such as to maintain the control circuit 7 for the flashing relay 9 at ninety times per minute but if one of lamps 1 should fail, the amplifier 13 produces no output so that the flashing rate is doubled. Alternatively, a pilot lamp may be connected in series with the collector of one of the transistors of amplifier 13. Diodes and transistors may be connected across resistors 11 and/or 12 to compensate for changes in voltage of battery U. In Fig. 1 (not shown) amplifier 13 is formed by a single transistor, components 14, 19, 21 being omitted.
