1353190 N - Phenethyl - 5 - chloro - 2 - methoxybenzamide; N-phenethyl-5-chloro salicylamide FRANK W HORNER Ltd 17 May 1971 [29 May 1970] 15218/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises N-phenethyl-5- chloro-2-methoxybenzamide and N-phenethyl- 5-chloro-salicylamide. They are prepared by treating methyl-5-chlorosalicylate with phenethylamine to produce N-phenethyl-5-chlorosalicylamide and then, if desired, methylating said N-phenethyl-5-chlorosalicylamide. Preferably the reaction with phenethylamine is carried out at 140-180‹ F. and the methylation is performed using dimethyl sulphate either in an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide or a solution of potassium carbonate in aqueous acetone.
