Abstract

1353160 Placing spring clips on folded articles/orientation/feeding conveyers T WATKIN M W FRIEDMAN and A S FRIEDMAN 9 Aug 1971 [1 July 1971] 37275/71 Headings B8C B8S and B8A A spring clip 100, to be placed over a folded article C, e.g. of clothing, and comprising a spring yoke 116 and two arms 112, 114 terminating in enlarged lips 118, 120, is cammed open by ramps 254, 256 (only 256 visible on Fig. 5) during movement towards the article C and is then released to engage the article. Clips are carried from a hopper 12 by an endless belt 28 formed with steps 30, and are deposited on a guide 40 so as to fall into a slide 16 which delivers the clips one at a time to a shoot 18 from which each clip is removed, and placed over the article C, by a clip drive 20. The slide 16 comprises parallel interrupted rails 45, 47 having sections 45a-45d and 47a-47d arranged in waterfall formation above a floor 46. The lips 118, 120 of the clips ride on inclined upper surfaces of the rails 45, 47 and the arms 112, 114 project through the space between the rails to drag on the floor 46. The portion of the floor 46 adjacent the rail sections 45d, 47d is interrupted at 92 so as to orientate the clips for delivery head first to the upper end 201 of the shoot 18, Thus a stack of clips is formed in the shoot 18. The article is received in a slot 250 between jaws 246, 248 formed at the lower end of the shoot, and in position between arms 262, 264 of the ramps 254, 256, these arms being carried by a stem 258 which is tapered at 260. The clips are pushed towards the article C by a pusher 212 guided by rollers 218, 220, 222, 224 and reciprocated by means of a crank pin 238 carried by a motor driven disc 236 and received between bars 242 secured to the pusher 212. The motor driving the crank disc 236 is energized by means of a sensor 266 when the latter detects an article C in the slot 250.
