Abstract

1353074 Ski practise apparatus MOGUL LEISURE PRODUCTS Ltd 3 Aug 1972 [20 Aug 1971 22 Jan 1972] 18844/71 and 3122/72 Heading A6D A ski practise apparatus comprises, in combination, a ski, the underside of which has a longitudinal central portion which stands proud of and is smoother than the adjacent side portions; and a machine, the machine including an endless belt whose surface is of slightly undulating but substantially non-undenting material. As shown in Fig. 3 the ski undersurface has a central portion 12 flanked by grooved side portions 9. The side portions may alternatively be provided with stud like projections. The machine (Fig. 4) comprises an endless belt carried on rollers 21, 22, the lower roller being driven by motor 32 via variable speed gearbox 31 and the upper roller being adjustable to tension the belt. The inclination of the belt carrying frame is adjustable by rotation of lead screw 42 by motor 50 via gearbox 49. Microswitches 61-63 switch off motor 50 at upper and lower limits of inclination. The motors controls 51-57 are located for easy reach by a skier and a stop switch arrangement 77-78 is operated by the skier if he falls and is carried to the top of the slope. Several machines may be placed side by side with the axles 24 joined. Materials: The ski may be moulded from synthetic plastics (e.g. polymethylmethacrylate). It may be in one piece or be a normal ski with a sole plate of the appropriate shape screwed thereto. The belt may be closely woven strands of synthetic plastics material and may have thick strands interwoven with thinner strands. A "basket weave" of polyamide or polypropylene fabric is described. Alternatively the material may be of moulded plastics with an undulating surface resembling said fabric.
