Abstract

1352925 Foundry moulding apparatus SHERWIN-WILLIAMS CO 19 April 1971 [12 Feb 1970] 20268/71 Heading B3F [Also in Divisions B8 and F2] A foundry moulding machine includes a support 160 (Fig. 1) for a first moulding-box part C (Fig. 6), a cradle 122 for carrying a second moulding-box part D (Fig. 6), a guide 129, 130 for guiding movement of the cradle 122 to and from the support 160 for opening and closing the moulding-box parts C, D, a lever 108 of "Y"-section connected at the yoke end 114, 115 of the "Y" to the cradle 122 and pivoted on a shaft 110, and a pneumatic motor 30, 105 connected to the other end of the lever 108 for effecting the cradle movement. The cradle 122 has trunnions 121 (Fig. 6) mounted slidably in end slots 117 of the lever 108 and also mounted slidably in arcuate cam slots 127, 128 of the guide 129, 130. The cradle 122 also has vertical slots 135, 136 in each of which rolls a roller 134 fixed on the guide 129, 130. As the cradle 122 is lowered, the trunnions 121 travel along the arcuate portions 132 of the cam slots pivoting the cradle 122 on the fixed rollers 134 for inversion and deposition of a moulding 201 contained in the cradle 122 upon an indexing conveyer 18. The conveyer 18 is powered through a mechanical linkage by the pneumatic motor 30, 105 (see Division B8). Sand measuring and blowing apparatus is provided and comprises a sand hopper 56 feeding a tilting blow-head 44, 82. The blowhead 44, 48 is pivoted at 40 and tilted to a filling position (broken lines) by a pneumatic motor 38, 78. In the filling position, a butterfly valve 60 is automatically opened allowing sand to fall into the blow-head 44, 82. During tilting of the blow-head 44, 82 back to the position shown, the valve 60 is closed, air is then admitted from a blow-valve 80 to pass through a foraminous member 79 to expel sand out of a nozzle 90 into a moulding-box and to inflate a sealing seat 62 surrounding the butterfly valve closure member 61. The lower blow-head part 82 is removable from the upper part 44 so that moulding boxes of different dimensions can be employed. Coolant channels 97, 98, 99 are provided in the part 82. If desired, a closure member (not shown) may be provided at the base 57 of the hopper 56; this closure member being automatically opened and closed with the tilting of the blow-head 44, 82. Core-boxes.-As shown in Fig. 6 a core-box C, D is provided in its lower part with an ejector plate with spring-biased ejector pins 141. The ejector plate is operated, after inversion of the core-box part D in its cradle 122, by abutment of a rod 146 with a stop (not shown) on the machine frame. Behind the ejector plate is a gasheating manifold 153, 154 supplied with gas from a rotary coupling 150.
