Abstract

1438967 Foundry flasks; moulding machines S ALEXANDERSON & CO AB 21 May 1973 [29 May 1972] 24223/73 Heading B3F In apparatus for making sand moulds and from which the mould is removed for metal casting, a flask 7 comprises a bottomless box with at least two opposing sides 10 converging towards a separate bottom member 12 carrying a pattern 11 and permitted limited movement to-and-from the member 12 by a guide arrangement 23, 24 connecting them, so that the mould can be carried away from the bottom 12 for ejection. The flask sides are inclined at 1¢ to 30 degrees to the vertical to assist ejection of the mould when the flask is inverted and a pressure plate 6 is lowered to engage ejector pins 23, sliding in holes 24 in the bottom plate 12 and attached to the sides 10, and bearing springs to urge the sides and bottom plate together. Completed moulds are received on an endless conveyer 2 vertically movable towards a welded steel main frame 1. The plate 6 is moved by a piston-and-cylinder 5. Four flasks 7 are each mounted on an arm 9 on an upright 8, for rotation about its axis. Each flask 7 is thereby moved, from a vibrating table 13 where it is filled with sand-mix from conveyer shoots, through 270 degrees to allow the binder in the sand-mix to harden, with the assistance of a gas if desired. The flask is then inverted, for the mould ejection, by the pivoting of a supporting fork 16 on the arm 9, by an electric motor 19 and gearing 20 mounted on an arm 18 moved by a piston- and-cylinder 17 to interengage coupling means 21, 22.
