Abstract

1352704 Laminates IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 1 Sept 1971 [10 Sept 1970] 43412/70 Addition to 1223415 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Laminates may be produced from hardboard, asbestos, plasterboard or paper and rigid polymeric foams having an isocyanurate ring structure in the polymer and prepared from a reaction mixture containing a blowing agent, a catalyst for the polymerization of isocyanates, a polyesterification product having a hydroxyl value of 200 to 700 mg. KOH/g. and not more than 1À5 branch points for each 1000 units of molecular weight and a crude diisocyanatodiarylalkane composition containing 5 to 70% by weight of polyisooyanates of functionality greater than two, the composition providing 3 to 10 equivalents of isocyanate group for each equivalent of active hydrogen in the reaction mixture, part of the polyesterification product and at least part of the crude diisocyanatodiarylalkane composition being in the form of a prepolymer having free isocyanate groups (see Division C3). In specific examples foam laminates with paper facings are produced on continuous laminating machines using various foam formulations.
