Abstract
1352388 Wells &c MANCAR-TRUST 28 May 1971 [29 May 1970] 18162/71 Heading E1F [Also in Division F2] Borehole apparatus comprises coaxial pipestrings 1, 2, Fig. 1, each comprising coupled lengths formed of glass-fibre reinforced resin, each pipe string being reinforced around its circumference by axially extending glass fibres so that when the pipe-string is fully loaded in the axial and radial directions the ratio of axial to radial strain is less than 0.95 and is preferably 0.8. The pipe 1 may be a casing cemented in the well as at 4 and the pipe walls may be made progressively thinner from above downwards. Fig. 2 shows a cross section through one of the pipe lengths, which has a base 6 formed of a resin (examples given) surrounded by the axial fibres 7. Circumferentially extending fibres 8 and further axial fibres 9 may be provided. In addition the pipe length may have layers of fabric or webbing, crosswound fibre binding and/or resin with a sand filler. The fibres may be of different gauge, having between 8 and 120 ends. Each pipe length may have an inner and outer organic or inorganic liner (examples given) and may be covered externally with sand. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 7, the inner pipe may have a double wall 14, 15, the wall 15 having one or more elastomeric zones which may be elastically deformed against the pipe 1 in the manner of a packer by passing compressed air into the space 18, to enable the equipment to be tested for leaks.
