Abstract
1352034 Modified organochromium supported catalyst UNION CARBIDE CORP 19 April 1971 [25 March 1970 25 Jan 1971] 25206/71 Heading C3P An alpha olefin is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising an activated inorganic oxide support carrying a bis-(cyclopentadienyl) chromium (II) compound (which may be substituted on the rings, although no specific substituted products are disclosed), the catalyst having a silane of the formula R 4-n H n or H 3 Si-[-SiH 2 -] m H, where m and n are 0 to 3 and R is C 1 -C 10 hydrocarbyl, associated therewith. Typical silanes are silane itself, diethyl-, butyl-, phenyl-, triethyl-, tetraethyl-, trihexyl- and methyl-diethyl-silanes. The support is activated by heat. The process may be carried out in a fluidized bed reactor of known type including means for recycling via a heat exchanger; a diagrammatic representation thereof is provided in the Specification. Examples relate to ethylene homopolymerization or copolymerization with propylene or butene, optionally in the presence of hydrogen.
