Abstract

1351903 Cosmetic and pharmaceutical compositions FMC CORP 16 May 1972 [11 June 1971] 22921/72 Heading A5B A composition comprises a cosmetic substance or a pharmaceutical substance and a disintegrated microcrystalline substance, the cosmetic or pharmaceutical substance being present in an available form and in an amount sufficient to impart its characteristic effect to the composition and the microcrystalline substance being selected from microcrystalline chemically modified chrysotile having a SiO 2 : MgO weight ratio of 5% to 30% greater than the corresponding ratio of native chrysotile, microcrystalline polyamides, microcrystalline polyesters and microcrystalline polyolefins, the disintegrated microcrystalline substance exhibiting a sharper X-ray diffraction pattern than the corresponding non-crystalline substance and consisting of at least 5% by weight of particles having a size not exceeding 1 micron. Examples are given of ointments, lotions, tablets, aerosol type bandage compositions, creams, shaving creams, suntan creams and toothpastes. Various active ingredients are specified.
