Abstract

1351774 Polyurethanes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 27 June 1972 [16 July 1971] 33457/71 Heading C3R Elastomeric polyurethanes are prepared by reacting a substantially linear polyhydroxy compound of M.W. greater than 800 which is liquid or has a m.p. not higher than 60‹ C. and an excess of 3-isocyanatomethyl-3,5,5- trimethyl-cyclohexyl isocyanate to form a prepolymer which is mixed with a low M.W. diol, diamine or hydroxyamine and the reaction continued until a solid product is obtained. The polyhydroxy compound is most suitably a polyether or polyester. Diols are the preferred chain extending agents. The elastomers find use in the production of coatings, adhesives and filaments. For these applications the elastomer is suitably dissolved in a solvent and an organic polyisocyanate curing agent added.
