Abstract

1351300 Multiple sliding door structure E M PETTERBORG 19 April 1971 [18 May 1970] 27095/71 Headings E1J and E2M A multiple sliding door structure includes a door panel support frame 5 and a door track 2 extending therefrom across a room. A plurality of separate door panels 37-41 are individually suspended from a door panel carriage 17 adopted to be driven transversely to the door track by a reversible electric motor 81 to successively effect planar alignment of each panel with the door track; and a drive means, e.g. friction wheels 104-117 operable by a motor 103, is operable to propel each panel from the panel carriage 17 along the track 2, or to reverse the procedure. The motors 81, 103 are actuable by automatic control means. The panel carriage 17 comprises several separate storage tracks 26-29 each carrying a separate panel by means of wheels and each having a slot 36 through which friction wheel 117 may engage the panel. The carriage 17 is driven by thrust members 93 threadedly engaged on spindles 86, 87 driven by the motor 81. The door track 2 comprises a section 49 rigidly attached to the ceiling D and sections 46-48 vertically movable by individual cord and pulley arrangements attached to levers 66, 72 76 in turn connected to cam levers 68-68", the movement of the latter being controlled by a cam disc 69 movable with the panel carriage 17. The friction wheels 116, 117 are pivoted by cords 123, 124 and solenoids 126, 127 to disengage them from the panels. The said control means comprises an electric circuit and a number of micro switches actuable by movement of the panels and panel carriage 17 which automatically actuate the motor 81 to move, in turn, each storage track 26 - 29 into alignment with the door track, switch off motor 81, move the respective panel along the track, lower the respective door track section 46 - 48 and panel until the panel touches the floor C and so on. Movement of the final panel actuates a switch to shut the motors down. The friction wheel 117 is automatically pivoted out of contact with the carriage 17 during transverse movement of the carriage. The door track section 49 is not lowerable and, to prevent there being a gap below the panel 41, the panel 39 tows behind it a track 142 which is straddled by a channel 146 on the panel 41. During return of the panels to the stored position, the track 142 is moved by a counterweight 171. Each friction wheel 104-117 has a friction clutch. (For Figures see next page)
