Abstract
1351116 Boots &c BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd 30 June 1971 [1 July 1970] 31936/70 Heading A3B A machine for reshaping the quarters of finished shoes includes a form 13 which is located in the foot opening of the shoe and pressure applying means 17 including first pressing means which press the margins of the upper around the topline and second pressing means which press the quarter parts of the shoe lower down the sides than the margins. As described the pressure applying means 17 are incorporated in a machine of the type described in Specification No. 1226952 which includes a heated form and a cooled form, the pressure applying means 17 of the present invention acting in cooperation with the cooled form. The first pressing means for pressing the topline consists of presser members 19, 21 having a rubber lining 23 and a covering of thin flexible leather 25, these presser members 19, 21 being operated as described in the above-mentioned specification. The second presser means for pressing the lower regions of the quarters consist of presser blocks 29, 33 which have felt linings 37, 39 and which are pivoted to the first presser means 19, 21 by pins 31, 35. The blocks 29, 33 are urged inwardly by leaf springs 41, 43, the position of the blocks 29, 33 being determined by stop screws (not shown) when the presser members 19, 21 are in open condition. In use, when the presser members 19, 21 are closed about the shoe the blocks 29, 33 contact the shoe before the presser members 19, 21 and are resiliently pressed against the shoe by springs 41, 43. The form 13 includes a cylindrical cooling element 15.
