Abstract

1350528 N-Chloromethyl carbamates and thiocarbamate BAYER AG 21 April 1972 [22 April 1971 5 Nov 1971] 18610/72 Heading C2C An N-substituted N-chloromethylcarbamic acid ester or thiolester of the formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are each alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, haloalkyl, haloalkenyl, haloalkynyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, optionally substituted aryl or optionally substituted aralkyl and X is O or S, is obtained by reacting an N-monosubstituted carbamic acid ester or thiolester of the formula with paraformaldehyde and thionyl chloride at a temperature between 10‹ and 120‹ C. The invention also comprises compounds of the formula wherein R<SP>3</SP> is phenyl which may be substituted by C 6 to C 10 aryl, branched or straight-chain alkyl, branched or straight-chain haloalkyl, branched or straight-chain alkoxy, aryloxy, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, NO 2 or halogen; and R<SP>4</SP> is C 1 to C 20 branched or straight-chain alkyl, branched or straight-chain C 3 to C 6 alkenyl or alkynyl, C 2 to C 6 haloalkyl with 1 to 4 halogens, C 3 to C 6 haloalkenyl or haloalkynyl with 1 to 4 halogens, C 3 to C 8 cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl, C 6 to C 10 aryl or aralkyl which may be substituted by C 6 to C 10 aryl, branched or straightchain alkyl, branched or straight-chain haloalkyl, branched or straight-chain alkoxy, aryloxy, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, NO 2 or halogen. Examples are given for the production of the compounds. They are useful as textile auxiliaries. The starting materials of Formula II may be obtained by reacting primary amines with aryloxy-, alkythio- or arylthio-carboxylic acid chlorides.
