Abstract

1350397 17-Aza-D-homosteroids RICHTER GEDEON VEGYESZETI GYAR RT 14 June 1971 [18 June 1970] 27720/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of Formulµ I and Ia (wherein R is free or ketalized oxo or is an α- hydrogen atom with a #-esterified or etherified hydroxyl group; and R 2 is C 1-4 alkoxy) and their preparation (a) by Beckmann rearrangement of the corresponding 16-hydroxyimino-17- oxo steroids using a mineral acid; and (b) by base cyclization of the corresponding 13α-X- 14#-CH 2 Y-de-D-steroids (wherein one of X and Y is carbamoyl and the other is alkoxycarbonyl). The starting material for method (a) may also contain a free 3-hydroxy group in which case a subsequent acetylation is performed (Example 2). A 3-ketal group may be hydrolysed during method (a) (Example 3). The inventive compounds are said to be convertible into 3# - hydroxy - 21 - chloro - 17 - aza- 5α - pregnan - 20 - one and 3 - hydroxy - 21- acetoxy - 17 - aza - 5α - pregnan - 20 - one (bactericidal and bacteriostatic agents) and into 3 - methoxy - 21 - (4 - methylpiperazino) - 17 - azapregna-1,3,5(10)-trien-20-one (a hypoeholesterolemic agent).
