The invention comprises (a) a process for preparing compounds of formula wherein X is a halogen atom and R is a C 1-15 alkyl group, and 1,2-dehydro-derivatives thereof, by conversion of a corresponding 6-halopregn - 4 - ene to its 3 - (C 1-6 alkoxy) - enol ether and subjecting this to 6,7-dehydrogenation, with optional simultaneous or subsequent 1,2-dehydrogenation, and (b) 6-bromo-16-methylene - 17α - acetoxy - pregna - 4,6 - diene - 3,20- dione and 6-chloro-16-methylene-17α-caproyloxy-pregna-4,6-diene-3,20-dione. The products of the invention have progestational activity and may be used in pharmaceutical compositions in forms suitable for oral, parenteral or rectal administration.
