1349740 Vulcanizable compositions DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 19 April 1971 [26 March 1970 21 Oct 1970 (2)] 14735/70 49903/70 and 49904/70 Heading C3E Vulcanizable natural or synthetic rubber compositions comprise: an adduct of a polyisocyanate (I) and an aromatic compound (II) containing a nitroso and phenolic substituent and a masked polyisocyanate (III) which liberates free polyisocyanate on heating. I may be dicyclohexylmethane - 4,4 - diisocyanate, toluene - 2,4 - diisocyanate or diphenylmethane - 4,4 - diisocyanate. II may be p-nitrosophenol, 3-methyl-4-nitrosophenol or 2 - methyl - 4 - nitrosophenol. III preferably liberates free polyisocyanate at temperatures > 100‹ C. and may be prepared by reacting a polyisocyanate with an aliphatic, aromatic or alkylaromatic mono- or poly-hydroxyl compound. The adduct may be present at 1-10 parts by wt. and III at 0À25-10 parts by wt. per 100 parts by wt. of rubber. The composition may also contain an activator, e.g. zinc or cadmium dimethyl- or diethyl-dithiocarbamates at 0À1-5 parts by wt. per 100 parts by wt. of rubber.
