Abstract
1349690 Pressure cell COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 19 Jan 1972 [26 Jan 1971] 2648/72 Heading C7B A pressurized electrolyser for producing gases, e.g. oxygen and hydrogen, comprises a plurality of cylindrical cells connected electrically in series, supplied in parallel with electrolyte and adapted to supply two-phase mixtures in parallel to a spherical-head constant level separator. Each cell comprises an inner sleeve 3 secured to the anode 4 being provided with a central nozzle 13 which also serves as a current supply terminal. An outer sleeve 5 in contact with a cathode 6 is provided with a peripheral nozzle 15 and a current output terminal 19. The electrodes are separated by a diaphragm 9. The electrolyte may be supplied through both the central and peripheral nozzles of one end and the two-phase gas/electrolyte mixtures are delivered to the separator through the nozzles of the other end. The separator may be constituted by a cylindrical outer shell 20 closed by a plug 21 at the lower end and joined at the top to a spherical head 22. The spherical head is provided with lateral collectors and a top collector. A cylindrical inner shell 26 is joined to a spherical head 27 attached to the top collector. The separator may be provided with two temperature regulating coils 30, 31. The bottom plug 21 may have a nozzle 36 for discharge of the electrolyte. One two-phase mixture may be supplied to the separator through the lateral collectors via pipe 49 and the other two-phase mixture may be supplied from pipe 41 through the top collector at nozzle 39. The pure gases are evalued at nozzles 38 and 37. A filter 29 separates these output nozzles from the liquid in the separator.
