Abstract

1349453 Nuts GKN SANKEY Ltd 31 Dec 1971 [1 Oct 1970] 46626/70 Heading F2H A nut comprises parallel grooves 13, having projections 14, in one face 10, a resilient block 15 adhered to a second face 11, and a threaded aperture 12. In position in a channel (Fig. 3) the block 15 is compressed thereby urging flanges 19 in the grooves 13. Apparatus for adhering a resilient block 15 to the remainder of each nut comprises a channel 24 which delivers nut portions one by one to parallel rails 26 along which they are conveyed by a walking beam 27 to a station 29. During conveyance therealong, adhesive is applied to one face 10 of the nut portions by means not shown. A strip of resilient material is fed along a channel 33 to the station 29 via reciprocating slide 34 and strip gripping members 35, means also being provided for holding the strip against the slide 34. When the free end of the strip is disposed over a nut portion it is clamped thereon the adjacent strip also being clamped. A rotary blade driven by motor 46 then slices the strip between the two clamps. The various operations of the apparatus are controlled by cams on a cam shaft to produce the required sequence.
