Abstract

1349020 Valves; drivers valves CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO Ltd 16 Oct 1972 [21 Oct 1971] 48975/71 Headings F2F and F2V A hand control valve forventingspring-actuated fluid pressure-released brake actuators to provide auxiliary braking comprises a valve body 1 with a delivery port 8, an inlet port 9 and an exhaust port 11, a valve assembly 3, 4, 5 within the body 1 being movable between a first setting for brake release in which the exhaust port 11 is sealed off and the inlet and delivery ports 9, 8 are interconnected, and a second setting for brake application in which the inlet port 9 is sealed off and the delivery port 8 connected to the exhaust port 11; the valve assembly 3, 4, 5 is operated by a rotary cam 14 having engagement with a piston cam follower 6 the cam 14 being mounted on a spindle 13 which has a handle 15 fast therewith and the cam 14 being loaded by a coiled torsion spring 16 towards a position for holding the valve assembly 3, 4, 5 in the first setting. As shown, the spring 16 is coaxial of spindle 13 and has a portion which extends through an axial groove 17 in the cam 14 whilst an end 16a abuts the body 1 or a cover 12. On Fig. 1 the broken lines show the position of the handle 15 for brake release and the full lines show the position for brake application, and to hold the handle 15 in this position for parking purposes a sleeve 19 is provided engageable within a socket in a gate 12a, the sleeve 19 being withdrawable against a loading spring 20. Alternatively, spring-loaded detent means may be provided for retaining the sleeve 19 in either of its operative and inoperative positions.
