1348858 Screw and nut gearing MOZAIR and HAMUL WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK KG 20 June 1972 [16 Nov 1971] 28808/72 Heading F2Q In a screw 1 and nut 2 gearing in which the nut 2 is moved axially through the intermediary of a bearing 3, inclined as shown at 45 degrees to the screw axis, the centre of the bearing is not coincident with the axis of the screw, the bearing being shifted laterally, distance d being less than distance D in Fig. 2. The position of the bearing is adjustable through screws 6 and a screw 10 (which can move the bearing when screws 6 are slackened). The side to which the bearing is moved depends on the sense of the screw 1, this being a right-hand screw in the example shown. The invention is stated to result in a pure rolling motion between the bearing race 8 and the screw thread, so reducing wearing. The invention may be incorporated in a machine tool, for the movement of a carriage. The lateral shifting of the bearing can also take up any free play between screw and nut.
