1348603 Mixer S HIRDSAWA 24 April 1972 18946/72 Headings B1C and B2A A mixer comprises a rotary agitating blade 1 on a drive shaft 3 within a container 4, drive means 7 for moving the container 4 orbitally relative to the blade 1 without contacting the blade 1, and means for preventing or controlling spin of the container 4. The container 4 may be suported on an eccentric shaft 6 of a drive shaft 7a, a shaft 9b universally jointed to the container 4 sliding in a holding arm 10 to prevent free rotation of the container 4, and the arm 10 being pivotable horizontally and vertically on a support 11. Alternatively, Fig. 4 (not shown), the shaft 6 may be inclined to the vertical to induce a vertical oscillation of the container 4. Container spin may be prevented by springs (13), Fig. 5 (not shown) extending generally radially of the container 4. Further, for spin at a required rate, gear teeth around the base of the container 4, Fig. 9, may engage a ring of teeth 141 formed around a fixed frame 14, or engaging portions of the container 4 and frame 14 may have high-friction coatings, e.g. of rubber. Also, Fig. 10 (not shown), an internally toothed flange (42) of the container 4 may engage teeth of an upwardly projecting flange (15) of the drive means 7. Finally, Fig. 13, the container 4 may be mounted eccentrically and rotatably on a disc 17 arranged to be rotated in an annular guide rail 16 by a shaft 18.
