1347682 Measuring tension NORSEMAN (CABLE MEASUREMENTS) Ltd 19 April 1971 [31 March 1970] 11769/70 Addition to 1241321 Headings G1N and G1W Apparatus for measuring tension in a rope 20 comprises a pair of rollers 19 mounted on a resilient beam 14, a pair of rollers 24 mounted on a wall 11 and an eccentric or slide displaceable by a handle 16 to effect relative movement between the beam 14 and wall 11 whereby deflection of a loaded rope 20 engaged by the rollers 19, 24 causes distortion of the beam which is measured by means 21. The distortion may be measured by a dial gauge, an electrical displacement transducer or strain gauge. The rollers 19 and 24 are mounted in needle or ball bearings, while the eccentric has a brass bush providing more friction. The bottom of the support frame 10, 11 may be bolted to the deck of a ship. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown) a pair of rollers are mounted between a pair of resilient beams which are mounted on a roller eccentrically between walls in which the second pair of rollers are mounted. Detents or click-stop devices may facilitate adjustment of the handle 16. A plurality of apparatuses may be ganged together to measure average tension of rods, wire mesh or high tensile wire strand used in prestressed concrete, the eccentrics all being fixed to a common shaft.
