Abstract

1347547 Injection-blow-moulding COPE ALLMAN PLASTICS Ltd 18 Sept 1972 [20 July 1971] 33973/71 Heading B5A Injection-blow-moulding apparatus comprises a first block having an injection mould cavity and a blow-mould cavity side-by-side and a second block carrying a core successively engageable in the cavities, wherein the blowmould comprises three sections, two defining the body portion and the third defining the base, and, on mould opening, one of the first two sections remains fixed while the other moves perpendicularly to the core axis and the third moves a lesser distance in the same direction. As shown in Fig. 1, a fixed block 1 carries an injection mould defined by inserts 4 and two outer blow-moulds defined by a fixed main section 7, a movable main section 8 and a base section 9. Cores 3 are mounted on a movable block 2. In the position of Fig. 1, a parison is formed by injection through nozzle 6 into injection mould 4 while a previously moulded parison is blow-moulded in right-hand blowmould 7-9 by air from core 3. Block 2 is retracted and moved to the left to align the parison with the left-hand blow-mould. Meanwhile, a carrier 10 is moved to the right carrying section 8; after a short distance, carrier 10 engages the head 12 of pin 13 and moves section 9 with it. After the mould has thus opened, the blown article is ejected by ejector pin (14, Fig. 3, not shown). Block 2 is then closed to engage the parison with the left-hand blowmould and the now empty core 3 with the injection mould and the process repeated as before. There may be several superimposed rows of moulds, each as shown.
